Albert Shelton, born free aboard an 18th Century trade vessel, yet brought up as a slave and forced to face the cruelest of atrocities at the vengeful hand of his master, Griffith Pike. From his youth, Shelton struggles to find his own way in life, every day fighting to survive in a world where men are traded for beads and the color of the skin can mean either death or life.
